Some comparison pictures that Lax01 asked for... I shot the Makita 9227C, the Flex XC3401VRG, and the Porter Cable 7424 together to give a size comparison of the 3.

I saw the one request to show how this machine can remove wet sanding marks, which I will try to capture when I have the right vehicle to do this on. If anyone else has anything you would like me to try to capture either via video or photo, let me know.

George

I received my Flex 3401 yesterday from Detailed Image. I will be interested to try it out this weekend, on my wife's car.

How does this machine compare to the Makita BO6040? Power wise? Orbit throw? Speed? Weight?

I will say these new generation of machines that both orbit and spin are very nice and I found they save a lot of time by eliminating rotary splatter. I highly recommend one to anybody considering getting one.

I should probably also add that I like where the trigger is located on this machine much better than the Makita. Looks like it may be easier to use as it is shaped closer to the rotary which is a plus.

Also the flex has an 8mm throw versus the pc/udm,s 5.5mm.And the flex is forced rotation and orbital all the time, the makita is switchable but cannot be used in both modes at the same time.

What does the throw refer to? Why is 8mm throw better than 5.5mm throw?

I believe that throw refers to the radius of the orbit.

Amazing the flex draws more power than the Makita; that's a strong motor.
