Default What do you guys use to clean the tires?

Do you typically use a product to clean the tires prior to applying a dressing? I've typically used Poorboy's Bio-APC on the tires along with a scrub brush, then applied Bold 'n Bright or another dressing on after the surface was clean.

I know many people jump right to the dressing.

What do you do?

George

I have white walls on my Tbird, so I use Westleys blech-wite to clean the entire wheel before dressing with Meguiars Hyperdressing or Endurance gel

Here is what I do.

- Tire cleaning/dressing -
1) Rinse tire to get rid of contaminants.
2) I spray Hi-Temp Tire Cleaner (diluted 1:1), and scrub them pretty thoroughly with OXO tire brush, then rinse again.
3) I apply Zaino Z-16 or Mothers FX Tire Shine (I got rid of the trigger) using a foam paint brush (I think it's 1 inch brush). Apply a thin line on tip, and then 'paint' them. I also use Eagle One tire applicator, cut in half.
4) For maintenance, I usually rinse first, and 'wipe' with Edge Black Shmitt, then rinse again.

Done

I tend to switch around what I use to clean tires. Most frequently I probably use DP Gel Wheel Cleaner just because I can use it on tires & wheels, but I also use Meguiar's Safe D-Greaser and Meguiar's APC (4:1). Then I dress the tires with DP Tire Gel or Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss.

I usually use whatever rubber cleaner I have to get rid of big stuff. Then use a spray on tire cleaner like Armorall Tire Foam. I know this is supposed to be one step but it is a pretty poor one step if that was all you are going to do! I use a scrub brush to get the tires real clean. If you have raised white letters or white walls NOTHING gets them clean and white like an SOS pad. Finish with Poorboy's Bold and Bright.

My cars tires get treated to a wash with 200 mph shampoo and then prepped with a 50/50 combo of carlack 68 plastic care and autoglym bodyshop 07B (only autoglym product I use now)

That enhances the look of the tires and provides a base for Sonus or Wolfgang tire gel to be applied over. I usually put on three coats over a four hour period

Customer cars get two.

One thing I never do once that is all done is shampoo them with the next body wash. I don't like the idea of washing the dressing all off each week and reapplying

With this process, I get up to two and a half months of durability on my tires and due to the temperature reactive properties of sonus and wolfgang, the just applied look comes back.

Every time you drive home from work and then the tyres cool down in the garage or driveway, the gloss returns.

Of course this works best on my tires as they are ultra high performance and soft compound. Any soft to medium-hard will still work but those hard stocky tires and truck tires don't allow it to work so well.

I do fenderwells and tires at the same time with APC and a brush. Lately I've been using Bold N Bright diluted 1:1 and getting excellent results to dress them.

No, 303 makes an amazing mild APC. The thing that makes it so incredible is that 303 aero space cleaner can be used on any surface that is water safe, which means if you can clean it with water...you can clean it with 303 aerospace cleaner.
